I believe the best science and outcomes for our natural resources require everyone’s contributions.

  • I am committed to personal teaching and research practices that foster inclusion of a diversity of students, researchers, water resource managers, and community members in aquatic ecology and ecological forecasting, particularly those from traditionally underrepresented groups in STEM. I strive to listen to and promote the expertise of others and recognize that valuable knowledge can arise from a variety of experiences outside of academic training in STEM.

  • I am committed to best practices in inclusive pedagogy. Below is a list of activities I am participating in or have completed to demonstrate this commitment:

Spring 2022 - online courses on Inclusive Pedagogy: Why Student Identities Matter and Universal Design for Learning

Jan. 11, 2022 - Advancing Diversity Gathering at Virginia Tech

Summer 2012 - Klingenstein Summer Institute (competitive summer program for independent school teachers with a central focus on promoting diversity and strong school communities)

  • I am committed to conducting open science, including using FAIR data practices, in support of improving data accessibility for researchers from diverse backgrounds. I demonstrate this commitment through:

    1. Publication of all my dissertation data through the Environmental Data Initiative (see my CV for a list of data publications).

    2. Participation in the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON), a global grassroots network of lake researchers that promotes data sharing to facilitate global synthesis and understanding of lake ecosystems.
